Where these rules come from
- Etsy's Listing Image Requirements, last updated Oct 22, 2026, quoted from the Internet Archive's copy of that day.
- Etsy's help center: Requirements and Best Practices for Images in Your Etsy Shop (Archive copy of Oct 12, 2026) and How to Edit Your Listing Photos (Archive copy of Feb 14, 2026).
Edits Etsy allows
Etsy lists three kinds of edit as allowed on your other photos:
- "Adjusting lighting, exposure, or color balance to match real life."
- "Cropping, resizing, or straightening the image."
- "Cleaning up or replacing the background, as long as the product itself is accurately represented."
That covers most of what an editing app or service does for a listing: brighter light, true color, a straight crop, a cleaner background.
Edits Etsy prohibits
- "Changing the product's actual color, texture, or condition."
- "Digitally removing or hiding defects, cracks, or damage."
- "Using AI to change the core design or features of a physical item."
The test for any edit is the one Etsy states: "All images must accurately reflect the item's true appearance, including color, condition, scale, and materials."
The one photo you don't edit
"For most products, you must include at least one unedited photo of the item. Do not use photo editing software or AI tools to alter this required photo." So before you send photos to an app or an editing service, keep one original straight from the camera, uncropped and unbrightened, and add it to the listing as it is.
Edits Etsy itself suggests
Etsy's own help pages recommend a few edits:
- Color: "If your image appears in the wrong colors on Etsy.com, convert your images to sRGB using an image editing software before uploading".
- Sideways photos: "try using a photo editing service to rotate your images, or retake the photo".
- Thumbnails: "Make sure that your thumbnail images have enough of a border that they can be cropped to square, portrait, and landscape thumbnails".
- Etsy has its own tools: when you add photos, "you can change their order, crop them, edit them, and adjust the thumbnail." Cropping works on Etsy.com and in the Etsy Seller app; the editor is in the Seller app.
Choosing an editing app or service
Whatever you use, check three things against the rules above:
- It doesn't change the product's color, texture or shape.
- It leaves you an untouched original for your unedited photo.
- Its output fits Etsy's sizes (see the Etsy listing photo size guide).
Where ReddStudio fits
ReddStudio makes a listing's images from one product photo. With Etsy picked, the first image is a landscape 4:3 shot of the product alone on a light, natural-looking background, and the rest share its style. It redraws the whole picture, product included, so these are the edited images Etsy allows only when they stay accurate: check each one against your real item, and keep your own unedited photo of the item in the listing too.
Your first listing is free, no card needed: the first image comes clean at full size, the other 5 with a watermark, and you get one free edit while this month's free edits last.
