Where these rules come from
Three Amazon documents, all read on October 25, 2026:
- Product image requirements, Amazon's current page for every category. Where the older guides disagree with it, it wins.
- Amazon's US jewelry category style guide, dated October 30, 2014. It has the shot for each kind of jewelry.
- Amazon's UK jewellery style guide summary, April 2020, the most detailed list of what a jewelry main image must not show.
The main image
From Amazon's current page: "Accurately represent the product as a realistic, professional-quality image", on a pure white background (RGB 255, 255, 255), with the product as 85% of the image. "Show the entire product within the frame of the image. Do not cut off any part of the product," and show it only once. No props or accessories that aren't included, and no part of a mannequin. The jewelry guides add the rest:
| Rule | What Amazon says | Source |
|---|---|---|
| How to shoot it | What Amazon says: "MAIN image for Jewellery must be shot flat", showing "only ONE product view, this must be a FRONT view" | Source: UK 2020 |
| A real photo | What Amazon says: "MAIN images must be a true photograph, not a sketch, drawing or graphical representation" | Source: UK 2020 |
| No model or display | What Amazon says: Not "on a visible mannequin, hanger or holder", and not "shot with a human model" | Source: UK 2020 |
| No packaging | What Amazon says: No "packaging, boxes, tags, certificates or brochures" | Source: UK 2020 |
| Colors | What Amazon says: "Each colour variation of the product needs an image", and "The colour in the image must match the product for sale" | Source: UK 2020 |
| No extras | What Amazon says: No borders, watermarks, inset images, logos, text, or promotional text such as "sale" | Source: US 2014 |
| Sharp and true | What Amazon says: Focus "from front to back (entire product is in focus), accurate color, and a good white balance" | Source: US 2014 |

Earrings, necklaces, rings and sets
Amazon's US jewelry guide gives a main shot for each kind of piece:
| Piece | Main image | Images after it |
|---|---|---|
| Earrings | Main image: "MAIN shots should show TWO earrings", side by side | Images after it: Not set by the guide |
| Chain necklaces | Main image: The whole necklace (see the note below) | Images after it: A "tightly cropped detail shot of a small section", then the clasp |
| Pendants | Main image: Not set in words by the guide | Images after it: Not set in words by the guide |
| Station necklaces | Main image: The whole necklace (see the note below) | Images after it: A detail shot "showing 1 or 2 stations" |
| Rings | Main image: One ring | Images after it: Other angles |
| Jewelry sets | Main image: "All pieces should be included in the MAIN image" | Images after it: "Secondary shots should be taken for each individual piece" |
| Pendant and earring sets | Main image: The pendant, with the earrings "positioned side by side" | Images after it: Not set by the guide |
The note on necklaces: the 2014 guide's main shot was the necklace "hanging, cropped to show only about the bottom 1/3 (like a smiley face)". Amazon's current page says not to cut off any part of the product, and the UK 2020 guide says the main image "must show the entire product (no product parts could be clipped)". So lay the whole necklace flat, and save the cropped view for a detail image.
Sizes
| Rule | Number | Source |
|---|---|---|
| Smallest you can upload | Number: 500 px on the longest side | Source: Current page |
| For zoom | Number: 1,000 px or more on the longest side | Source: Current page |
| Largest | Number: 10,000 px on the longest side | Source: Current page |
| Jewelry guide | Number: 1,600 px or more; main image close to 3:4 (width to height) | Source: UK 2020 |
The 2014 US guide capped images at 2,100 pixels. That limit is gone: the current page allows up to 10,000. Jewelry details like stones, chain links and clasps need zoom, so aim well past 1,000.
The images after the main one
The US guide: "Main images should be supplemented with additional images showing different sides of a product, the product in use, or details that aren't visible in the MAIN image." A white background is "recommended, but not required", and "all props or accessories must be presented in a way that does not cause customer confusion." The UK guide adds that images "displaying a silhouette or sizing scale" help shoppers and can reduce returns, and that loose stones may be shown on black in these images, never in the main one.
This is where a model wearing the piece belongs. If that model is a photorealistic person made by AI, Amazon asks for a metadata tag on the file; see Amazon secondary and lifestyle image rules.
Where ReddStudio fits
ReddStudio redraws your product photo into a main image and lifestyle and infographic images. The main image is made by AI, and Amazon asks for a realistic image that accurately represents the product, with the UK guide asking for "a true photograph". So compare every stone, link and clasp with the real piece before you upload, and if you have a clean photo of your own on white, it's the safer main image. ReddStudio's Amazon images are square, while Amazon's UK jewelry guide asks for a main image close to 3:4 (width to height). Your first listing's six images are free as a watermarked preview.
FAQ
Can a jewelry main image show a model wearing it?
No. Amazon's jewelry style guides list a model and a mannequin as not allowed in the main image, and Amazon's current rules ban any part of a mannequin there. Show the piece worn in the images after the main one.
Should a necklace main image be cropped?
Not any more. Amazon's 2014 US jewelry guide showed chain necklaces hanging and cropped to the bottom third, but Amazon's current main image rules say to show the entire product within the frame and not cut off any part of it. Follow the current page.
What size should Amazon jewelry images be?
At least 500 pixels on the longest side to upload, and 1,000 or more so shoppers can zoom; the largest allowed is 10,000. Amazon's UK jewelry guide asks for 1,600 pixels or more. Jewelry is small and detailed, so go well above the minimum.
Can I show the gift box in a jewelry listing?
Not in the main image: Amazon's jewelry guides list packaging, boxes, tags, certificates and brochures as not allowed there. A box can go in a later image, presented so it doesn't confuse shoppers about what they get.
How do I show earrings on Amazon?
Both earrings in the main image, side by side, per Amazon's US jewelry style guide. Other views go in the images after it.
